Everything You Need to Know About Angeles City, Luzon

Angeles City is located in central Luzon in the province of Pampanga approximately 75km north of Manila. Angeles is a bustling and thriving city with a population of about 330,000. The main languages spoken are Tagalog, and Kapampangan, but English is also widely spoken. The history of Angeles dates back to the Spanish period, and it was the capital of the Philippine Republic during the Filipino-American war. The Pamintuan Mansion became the seat of the short-lived government in 1899. For visitors to Angeles nowadays, there are two main areas of attraction in Angeles City: the Clark Freeport Zone and the Balibago entertainment district.

Clark Freeport Zone: In the early 1900s the U.S. established Fort Stotsenberg in Angeles as a cavalry post. This later became part of the huge Clark Air Base after World War II. In 1991 the Mt. Pinatubo eruption devastated the area, and as a result, the U.S, evacuated the base. It is now the Clark Special Economic Zone, and is a mixture of leisure centres, shopping, industrial park, and the location of the Clark International Airport. Read more...

Balibago: The district adjacent to the former U.S. base is called Balibago, which became the main entertainment area for military personnel stationed at the base. Read more...
