Mactan–Cebu International Airport

Getting to Cebu Province by Plane

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) owes its name to the fact that it’s the main airport of Cebu Province, and that it is located to the northwest of Mactan Island, just south of Cebu Island. The two islands are really close to each other, and are connected by two bridges.

The second busiest airport in the country, after Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Mactan-Cebu Airport dates back to 1956, the year the US Air Force built its 3,300-metre-long runway. Featuring a single terminal, and a taxiway that it shares with the Mactan Air Base of the Philippines Air Force, Mactan-Cebu Airport totally covers an area of 797 hectares, and is the first ever airport in the Philippines at which the Antonov An-225 Mriya, the longest and heaviest cargo aircraft ever built, could land in 2013.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport Facilities

With traffic of over 8.5 million passengers in 2016, Mactan-Cebu Airport has an impressive capacity for handling arriving and departing travellers, especially when you know that international and domestic flights are both managed in the same building. Regarding facilities, you’ll find restaurants, convenience stores, bookstores, ATMs and a well-stocked duty free zone – all that’s necessary for a comfortable wait for your flight or transfer.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport Transfer Services

If your final destination is either on Cebu or Mactan Island, and if you did not get your transfer from the airport already arranged with your hotel, there’s no need to worry as a good choice of transfer services are available at Mactan-Cebu Airport. Air-conditioned taxis and minivans are available to take you to holiday destinations such as Moalboal (109 km away, costing PHP 2,770) or Oslob (134 km and PHP 3,408). International car rental agencies like Avis, Budget and Europcar have a counter in the arrivals hall.

Regarding transfers from the airport to nearby islands, it roughly takes one hour to get to the ferry pier on Cebu Island but, considering the time to pass customs and to receive your luggage, as well as the mandatory early check-in required at the ferry pier, the whole transfer takes almost three hours.
