Sightseeing by Tricycle

Sightseeing is definitely a must when visiting this island. Now that you are in Mactan, do as the locals do when it comes to sightseeing; use a 'tricycle'. They are basically a motorcycle with a sidecar attached, but the islanders name them tricycles and use them as everyday transportation among other vehicles.

To hire one (with driver of course) is usually inexpensive and reliable. Ask your hotel front desk about where to get one and how much it will cost.

Also it is a photo opportunity as many drivers maintain their tricycles very well and some of them paint them beautifully.

Around town

Swim, Snorkel and Scuba Dive

Mactan Island is well known for its lovely beaches and the water temperature throughout the year hovers between 27-30C, making diving possible at any time. Visitors can rent a glass-bottom boat or go snorkelling and/or scuba diving around the island.

A good stop is Hilungtungan Island Marine Park as well as world-famous Moalboal and Pescador in the southern part of Cebu, renowned for beautiful coral reefs and exotic tropical fish.

If you have more time, you can head out to the Bohol Islands where white sands and isolated beaches will make you want to extend your holiday.

Mactan Island Golf Club

Golfers should not miss the chance of a game at the 18-hole Mactan Island Golf Club located near the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The course underwent a three-year renovation not long ago. Facilities include a restaurant and clubhouse. Mactan Island Golf Club is open to the public and advance reservation is suggested.

Inside the Mactan-Benito Euben Air Base of the Philippine Air Force, about five minutes from the airport and not far from Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Shangri-La's Mactan Island Resort & Spa.
